These are the wildflowers I had in mind when I painted this illustration. You see that sometimes what I painted looks like the flower and sometimes it doesn’t. There are times when I use only the color of the flower in my illustrations. Botanical illustrators—people whose job is drawing plants—always make their pictures look exactly like the plant they are painting. It is pretty obvious I am not a botanical illustrator. What do you think?
